From Nine MSN Entertainment News.

Australia will flex its Hollywood muscle in Los Angeles next week, with Baz Luhrmann, Jacki Weaver, Joel Edgerton and Alex O’Loughlin among the list of Aussies to be honoured at a benefit dinner in Los Angeles.

The dinner, organised by LA-based non-profit Australians in Film, will also include plenty big name non-Aussies, headed by Twilight heart-throb Robert Pattinson, Oscar-nominated director David O. Russell and Matrix duo Andy and Lana Wachowski who will present awards.

Luhrmann and Edgerton’s Blue-Tongue Films collective will receive the Fox Studios Australia-sponsored Orry-Kelly International Award, named after Australia’s most prolific Oscar-winning costume designer, who won three Academy Awards in the 1950s for An American in Paris, Les Girls and Some Like It Hot.

Weaver, who became hot property in Hollywood with her 2010 performance in the Blue-Tongue crime drama Animal Kingdom, and Hawaii Five-O star O’Loughlin, will receive Breakthrough Awards.

Australia’s touted next big thing actor, Sullivan Stapleton, who stars in the upcoming 300 sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire and had a role opposite Sean Penn in Gangster Squad, will also receive a Breakthrough Award.

The AusFilm international award will be presented to Warner Bros president of worldwide production Steve Papazian.

The annual benefit dinner, to be held at LA’s InterContinental hotel next Thursday (October 24), will support Australians in Film’s mission to usher Australian filmmakers into the international market and provide educational programs for the organisation’s members.

  1. Woohoo! Read this a while ago and was like: Finally! Finally an award that honors his own work and him as an actor, not a series or a film he is in. Those are certainly great, but this one is even greater!

  2. I’m so glad someone is recognizing the great acting job Alex does in every show and movie. The Emmy’s need to take notice! Way to go, Alex!

  3. Hey something is mighty wrong here *scratches head*

    Ok, I’ll post it again.

  4. So gratified to hear he will win an award for his talent. Long overdue. But always great great news!!!! And it must feel so good for him to win this from Home.

Congratulations, Alex! You so deserve this, and more. When you accept your award, you got millions of fans all over the world standing there with you. 🙂

  5. Thanks for the info! I’m so happy for Alex! He so deserves all the accolades he gets. I’m not gonna lie, I love to stare at him. We all know this 🙂 But I really love Alex as an actor.

    • Absolutely. We all like to have fun with Alex’s appearance, he does too, but I don’t think many of us would be here if we also didn’t love the talent behind the face. It took awhile for his critics to get past it but thankfully they are slowing realizing there is more to this man than meets the eye.

  6. Really great news that he is getting this recognition! Plus we will get to see him all dressed up in a suit again! Swoooooon

    • I know!! I would be lying if I wasn’t excited about the thought of the pics that will emerge. Probably not a lot of them, but there should be a few HQ pics that make the rounds. YAY!

  7. That’s fantastic news 🙂 Alex deserves all the recognition he can get for his acting skills
Mary, my lucky lucky girl, can’t wait to hear all about it

  8. This kind of news makes me feel so happy that I make a feedback in my mind of the wonderful career Alex has done and really my happyness is so huge that I want to cry just to imagine Alex getting there and receiving this award….. it hasn’t been an easy way but finally Alex is beginning to get what he has worked for so hard……and this kind of successful is the one anyone enjoys more…..all your fans around the world will be with you that night <3!!! .

    • I think the fact that it hasn’t been easy for him and has taken awhile to quiet his critics is indicative of how driven he is and how long a career he will have. He didn’t burst onto the scene and everyeone get sick of him right away….he has staying power. May he have a long, storied career.

  9. Great news!! Alex works so hard, something that many actors who have featured on H50 have mentioned. It’s wonderful that he is getting recognised. He’s not just a pretty face he’s so much more.

  10. Yes! About time! He so deserves it! An award just for him. And his acting.
And I hope we will be spoiled with tons of pics, interviews and videos…

  11. Congratulations to Alex! We love him for all the hard work he puts in and his time he gives to others. Nice to see him get acknowledged as well:)

  12. I’m very happy that Alex will receive an award by his work. It’s always great when someone recognize your effort and hard work. And that recognition that come by Alex’s pairs is very important to him for sure. Congratulations Alex!
